From Flour to Quilt
Eddy and I like to support local establishments, so we buy all of our flour from War Eagle Mill in Rogers, Arkansas. War Eagle Mill sells organic stoneground flour that it grinds using hydro power. Many of its products come in cloth sacks. Eddy and I try to reuse and recycle as much as possible. When we began buying flour from War Eagle Mill, we didn’t know how to reuse or recycle cloth. Borrow Books & DVDs from Library
I borrowed Jennifer Cockrall-King’s Food and the City from the Central Arkansas Library System. Eddy and I think that the practice of buying books is obsolete unless you plan to use them over and over again. In recent years, we have only bought cookbooks and books that help us go green. Our bookshelf has a cheesemaking book next to a soapmaking book and a beer brewing book next to a tree identification book. (We forage, so we need to know our trees.) For great bargains on used plants, visit Plant Services (5514 Crystal Hill Road) in North Little Rock, tomorrow between 9 a.m. to noon. I have bought several gently used plants for amazing prices. Can’t make it this Saturday? Don’t worry. Plant Services has a used plant sale every second Saturday of the month.

It’s that time of the year again! Friends of Central Arkansas Libraries (FOCAL) will host a used book sale, Friday-Sunday, July 13-15 in the Main Library basement (100 Rock Street) in downtown Little Rock. Hardback books are $1, and paperbacks go for 50 cents. Fifty percent off for “gently read” books at River Market Books & Gifts for FOCAL members.
